Bayram -İlk Gunu

Everytime we entered an apartment... the moment they saw him... their first impression was a mixture of suprise...weirdness and laughter....
He was not offended...
His answer was always...
*we come here as a team to entertain u*
Yup... My beloved, the kids and i were in a unision of the gold malay traditional costume for our first bayram day (raya)..
Yup... especially for a man to wear our malay costume walking around visiting his aunties.. yup.. he sure attracted loads of attention and teasing...
and yes... he was quite ok visiting his closest teyzes n yengez (aunties) in it...but he confessed to feeling shy if he needed to walk everywhere in it to other people's place not so close in relation...
He was saved of it after all as baddin got really sick even by noon and we had to stop visiting people by 6pm....
How is Bayram in Turkey? It is simple really... You dont need to cook loads of dishes really... all you need is a type of dessert like baklava and a type of salty food...like börek.. and tea of course... and chocolate n sweets..thatz all... so simple eh?
Of course... being a malaysian at heart..i still crave for those simply delicious delicacies of what i was used to... having ur siblings tease u about the food didnt help either... but this is also my home and i am used to it...
What did i cook? well.. basically.. i didnt cook anything!! hahahaha i sooo wanted something malaysian...so i cooked for myself... kuih sago... a sweet type of malaysian dessert..for the guests? well..i cooked nothing!
I woke up at 7am only to tidy and clean the house..by 12.30 noon.. we went to baba'z place for the family lunch... the typical rice eaten with chick peas cooked with meat...
It was the traditional visiting Afife teyze... later.. lutfiye teyze and lastly muyessa yenge... we would have continued our visiting to a few more doors but baddin who had been vomitting since noon was developing fever n what not. Hatice was not doing so great either.... so we decided to stop any visiting to let the kids rest so that we could continue our bayram the next day... my beloved is determined to visit relatives this bayram...esp after the death of his dad.....
The roads r quite empty in istanbul..many many istanbulites have deserted their forte and go somewhere for the 10 days holiday... halimlar dissapeared ages ago to sivas... tonite kerim will too... and tomorrow...selimlar will follow suit...
and THANK YOU kak Natrah for the call on the eve of raya! it was indeed a very nice suprise!! sorry we couldnt return the hospitality!
I'll let the pics show u how *weird* we look in the eyes of the istanbulites not used to our traditional dress...
A young lady indeed...

Yes? Yup.. pls take ur cue number please heheheeh (just kidding)
